Terms & Conditions

Last updated 31 August 2026

These terms and conditions (the "Terms") apply to your purchase of tickets to the The True Crime Sessions conference. Please read them carefully before you buy. By purchasing a ticket you agree to be bound by these Terms.

The Terms are written in plain English. In these Terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Mayne Event Media Limited, and "you" and "your" mean the person who buys a ticket or attends the Event.

1. Who we are and these Terms

1.1. The Event is organised and sold by Mayne Event Media Limited, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 10558400, whose registered office is at 79 Tib Street, Manchester, M4 1LS.

1.2. In these Terms: (a) "Event" means the The True Crime Sessions conference, a one-day public true crime conference to be held at Millennium Point, Birmingham on Saturday 21 November 2026; (b) "Ticket" means a ticket to attend the Event, purchased through our ticketing partner, Eventbrite; (c) "Ticket Holder" means the person named on a Ticket or, where a Ticket has been passed to another person in accordance with Clause 6, that other person.

1.3. These Terms govern your purchase of a Ticket and your attendance at the Event. They form the contract between you and us. Please read them together with our Privacy Notice (see Clause 15).

1.4. You can contact us by email at contact@mayneeventmedia.co.uk or by writing to us at the registered office address above. If you need to contact us about a specific booking, please quote your Eventbrite order number.

2. How your contract with us is formed

2.1. You buy Tickets through Eventbrite. When you submit your order and payment through Eventbrite, you are making an offer to buy a Ticket from us.

2.2. A contract between you and us is only formed when we issue our order confirmation. Submitting your order and paying through Eventbrite does not by itself create a contract.

2.3. If we are unable to accept your order, we will let you know and will not charge you for the Ticket. This might happen, for example, because the Event has sold out, because we identify an error in the price or description of the Ticket, or because we are unable to meet an age or other eligibility requirement.

3. Price and payment

3.1. The price you see displayed for a Ticket at the point of purchase is the total price you pay. It includes VAT and the booking fee.

3.2. We will not add any further mandatory charges to that price after it has been displayed to you. The price shown is all-inclusive.

3.3. If there is an optional extra you can choose to add, we will make clear that it is optional and show its price separately before you pay.

3.4. Payment is taken by Eventbrite at the time you place your order.

4. Age restriction and ID

4.1. The Event is strictly for people aged 16 or over. No one under the age of 16 will be admitted.

4.2. We may ask you to show valid photo identification on the day as proof of age. Please bring photo ID with you.

4.3. If you cannot prove that you are 16 or over when we ask, we may refuse you entry. If you are refused entry for failing an age or ID check, you will not be entitled to a refund.

5. Cancelling your booking and refunds

5.1. You may cancel your booking and receive a refund of the price you paid for your Ticket if you tell us that you wish to cancel at least 30 days before the date of the Event.

5.2. If you cancel less than 30 days before the date of the Event, your booking is non-refundable and you will not receive a refund.

5.3. To cancel, please contact us using the details in Clause 1.4, quoting your Eventbrite order number.

5.4. We will process any refund due to you using the same payment method you used to buy the Ticket, within 14 days of agreeing that a refund is due.

5.5. Nothing in these Terms affects any refund or other legal rights you have that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Please note that tickets for a dated leisure event such as this one are exempt from the 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, so there is no statutory cooling-off period for your Ticket. The right to cancel in Clause 5.1 is our own policy, offered to you in addition to your legal rights.

6. Passing on your ticket, and no resale

6.1. Tickets must not be resold or offered for resale, whether for profit or otherwise. If we reasonably believe that a Ticket has been resold or offered for resale, we may cancel it without a refund, and the Ticket Holder may be refused entry.

6.2. We do not operate an official ticket transfer or name-change service.

6.3. You may, however, pass your Ticket to another person free of charge, provided that: (a) you tell us in advance, using the details in Clause 1.4, giving us the name and date of birth of the new attendee; and (b) the new attendee meets the age requirement in Clause 4 and agrees to these Terms.

6.4. Once you have passed your Ticket to another person in accordance with Clause 6.3, that person becomes the Ticket Holder.

7. Changes to the programme

7.1. The Event programme, including the speakers, sessions, content, running order and timings, is subject to change.

7.2. We may change or substitute speakers, sessions, content and timings without offering a refund, provided that the core Event still goes ahead. Line-ups and schedules are indicative and are not guaranteed.

8. If we cancel, postpone or reschedule the Event

8.1. If we cancel the Event, you will be entitled to a refund of the price you paid for your Ticket.

8.2. If we postpone or reschedule the Event to a new date: (a) your Ticket will remain valid for the new date; or (b) if you are unable to attend the new date, you may instead ask us for a refund of the price you paid for your Ticket, provided you tell us within 14 days of the date on which we announce the new date.

8.3. We will not be liable to pay any other compensation or to reimburse any other costs you may have incurred, such as travel or accommodation, beyond refunding the price of your Ticket, except where the law requires otherwise.

8.4. Circumstances beyond our reasonable control. We will not be in breach of these Terms, and will not be liable to you, if we are prevented from holding the Event, or have to cancel, postpone or reschedule it, because of events or circumstances beyond our reasonable control. These include, for example, fire, flood, severe weather, epidemic or pandemic, government restrictions, acts of terrorism, civil disturbance, strikes, failure of utilities or transport networks, or unavailability of the venue. If this happens, we will treat the situation as a cancellation under Clause 8.1 or a postponement under Clause 8.2, and your rights will be as set out in those clauses.

9. Your behaviour at the Event

9.1. We want everyone to enjoy the Event safely. You must behave lawfully and considerately, follow the reasonable instructions of our staff and the venue's staff, and comply with the venue's rules.

9.2. We may refuse you entry to, or remove you from, the Event if you behave in a way that is unlawful, dangerous, threatening, or seriously disruptive to the Event, our staff, the venue or other attendees, or if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs to the point of causing a problem.

9.3. If we refuse you entry or remove you from the Event for any of the reasons in Clause 9.2, you will not be entitled to a refund.

10. Security, bag searches and prohibited items

10.1. For everyone's safety, we and the venue may carry out searches of you and your bags as a condition of entry. If you do not agree to a search, we may refuse you entry, and Clause 9.3 will apply.

10.2. Large luggage and suitcases are not permitted at the Event. We cannot guarantee that a cloakroom or storage facility will be available, so please do not bring large items with you.

10.3. We and the venue may refuse to admit, or may confiscate, any item that we reasonably consider to be dangerous, illegal, or otherwise unsuitable for the Event.

11. Photography and filming

11.1. The Event may be photographed, filmed and recorded. By attending, you understand that you may appear in photographs, video or audio recordings taken at the Event.

11.2. We may use those images and recordings for our promotional and marketing purposes, including on our website and social media.

11.3. If you have any concerns about appearing in photographs or recordings, please speak to a member of our staff at the Event, or contact us in advance using the details in Clause 1.4, and we will do what we reasonably can to help.

12. Content sensitivity notice

12.1. The Event discusses real crimes. Some sessions may include descriptions or images of violence, abuse or other distressing subject matter.

12.2. Please use your discretion in deciding whether to attend or to remain in any particular session. Attendee discretion is advised.

13. Accessibility and reasonable adjustments

13.1. We want the Event to be as accessible as possible. If you have a disability or particular needs and would like us to make reasonable adjustments to help you attend and take part, please contact us in advance using the details in Clause 1.4.

13.2. Please give us as much notice as you can so that we have time to make suitable arrangements with the venue.

14. Our responsibility to you

14.1. If we fail to comply with these Terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking this contract or our failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for any loss or damage that is not foreseeable.

14.2. We do not exclude or limit our liability to you in any way where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes our liability: (a) for death or personal injury caused by our negligence; (b) for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; and (c) for any matter for which it would be unlawful for us to exclude or limit our liability, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

14.3. Subject to Clause 14.2, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable to you for: (a) any loss of profit, loss of business or business opportunity, or any wasted expenditure; or (b) any indirect or consequential loss.

14.4. Subject to Clause 14.2, our total liability to you in connection with your Ticket and your attendance at the Event will not exceed the price you paid for your Ticket, except in respect of any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

14.5. You are responsible for your own personal belongings at the Event. Please keep them with you and safe.

15. Privacy and your personal data

15.1. We take your privacy seriously. We handle your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Notice, which explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

15.2. Our Privacy Notice is available on our website. If you would like a copy, please contact us using the details in Clause 1.4.

16. Changes to these Terms

16.1. We may change these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the law or in how we run our events.

16.2. The Terms that apply to your purchase are the Terms that were in force at the time you bought your Ticket. Changes we make after you buy will not affect the Ticket you have already bought.

17. Governing law and where you can bring legal proceedings

17.1. These Terms and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them, your Ticket or the Event are governed by the law of England and Wales.

17.2. You and we both agree that the courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction. However, if you live in Scotland you may also bring proceedings in the Scottish courts, and if you live in Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in the Northern Irish courts.
